Fearless Manyata Thapa : A brave girl who stood against the unethical & illegal practices !

There was protest going on Chitwan Medical College as CMC was charging fee more than the rate fixed by government. Mainstream media were not giving more importance in this issue. CMC was ignoring the protest, police were suppressing the protesters. Students have been protesting that refunds be made for the last three weeks, and that they will be filing a complaint in the administration for the same. During the ongoing protest Setopati a well known online portal publishes a video blog of Manyata Thapa where she speaks about the unethical and illegal practices led by Chitwan Medical College and it became viral over the internet.

Manyata is a decent MBBS 3rd year student. Her parents are teachers and they had few paternal land. Her parents sold those lands to fulfill the dream of making their children a doctor. The government had fixed the fees for MBBS programmes at Rs3.85 million for colleges inside Kathmandu Valley and Rs4.24 million for colleges outside the Valley in 2017. But Chitwan Medical College has been charging a extra fee (examination and others) of up to Rs600,000 which is unaffordable for most of the students. After CMC demanded extra fee Manyata is unable to continue her studies as it is unaffordable for her and her parents. She says that 1st & 2nd year students are charged 1.2million extra by college. She spoke in media very much comfortably without any fear and she also told that she have vouchers as a proof. She says she is compelled to raise voice against the Chitwan medical college outside the college gate.

She used to had fear that she could be targeted by college as she is raising voice against the administration. But now she is fearless as she has no other option than to raise voice against the mal practices. She further says that if we don't raise voice than after few years only son/daughters of  medical mafia's can study medical college.

During the protest she was lathicharged by police, was kept in custody and college threatened her by saying that they will fail her in VIVA. She had never seen police officer's like Superitend of Police before but now she is familiar due to regular meetings. Her morale has increased after she was kept in custody while raising voice. The issue have been temporarily settled in a guardianship of  CDO with a conclusion that CMC should return all the extra fee taken from students within 1 months.
Meeting at District Administration Office.

The step taken by Manyata in this issue is high appreciated by most of the youths, public and medical students. She is just a representatives in Medical sector this type of step should be taken in each and every sector where there are mal practices.
